About New York TMJ & Orofacial Pain
In 2022, the National Commission on Recognition of Dental Specialties and Certifying Boards granted specialty standing to the field of Orofacial Pain. The achievement of this specialty status signifies that the time has come for leaders in the field to make efforts within their practice communities to make the specialty of Orofacial Pain more visible and recognizable.
As a result, Dr. Donald Tanenbaum and Dr. Steven Syrop decided to form a partnership and create the specialty care practice, New York TMJ & Orofacial Pain. Making this decision was inevitable – the doctors have shared an office in midtown Manhattan for over 32 years and share practice philosophies for the care of patients with temporomandibular disorders and Orofacial Pain.
With this new specialty care practice in place, their goal is to continue providing patients suffering from pain with evidence-based treatments that blend science and empathy. They have shared this philosophy of care over the years by providing lectures and seminars to dental students, residents, and practicing dentists and physicians in the New York City metropolitan region. Their academic and professional affiliations make them recognized leaders in the field of Orofacial Pain and, as a result, have earned them the trust of a broad range of healthcare providers.
And to ensure that New York TMJ & Orofacial Pain has a secure future, Dr. Tanenbaum and Dr. Syrop are in the midst of developing a mentorship training program to help educate and guide younger practitioners who will become part of this specialty practice. The training initiative has been designed to blend experience in their offices with online didactic learning provided by prestigious Orofacial Pain postgraduate programs nationwide. Their goal is to pass on what they’ve learned from their mentors, orofacial pain colleagues, and combined years of clinical practice to the next generation.
Dr. Tanenbaum and Dr. Syrop are excited about the recognition of Orofacial Pain as a specialty and to introduce New York TMJ & Orofacial Pain and its three locations: Midtown Manhattan, Hauppauge on Long Island, and Briarcliff Manor in Westchester County.
